Tempered glass may occasionally shatter spontaneously for no apparent reason, even after being installed for some time. This spontaneous breakage could be due to the presence of ‘nickel sulfide’ in the float glass production, and it is difficult to ascertain the actual cause of the breakage.
Therefore, TOPLINE HEAT-SOAK TEST is a highly recommended process in which the tempered glass is placed in a heating chamber and heated to 260°C (+/- 10°C) with a 2-hour holding time. The entire process may take up to 8 hours to induce the glass containing ‘nickel sulfide’ to break spontaneously. This helps reduce the risk of breakage on-site.
